Key Lime Pie

Now that I've returned from my vacation I've decided to make a change. I want to start eating healthier and working out more. I am usually good about this however with stress and school and life in general, I've kind of fallen off track. I'm not doing some crazy diet to lost half my body fat, I'm just going to be more conscious of what I'm putting into my body. So I'm going to be baking some lighter recipes now mainly from this Hungry Girl cookbook and from a Weight Watchers cookbook.

We just got back from Key Wesr, and for one last hurrah I decided to make light Key Lime Pie. I got the recipe from the pie crust for 5 minute key lime pie and adapted it.

Ingredients:
-Reduced fat pie crust

-1/4 c. Water
-1 package sugar free lime flavor gelatin (the whole 4 serving package)

-2 6 oz containers key lime pie Greek yogurt

-1  8oz tub of reduced fat, non dairy whipped topping

Instructions:
1) microwave the water in a microwave safe large bowl for a minute, or until boiling.
2) in the same bowl whisk in the gelatin and then the yogurt.
 (Looks gross I know)

3)fold in the whipped topping
4) spread key lime mixture evenly over pie crust and refrigerate for 4 hours or until settled. Store in the fridge.

-I'm an impatient person and probably didn't let it set enough before digging into my slice but hey it was still very good.

Opinions on fan girls #1

As I write this I'm on a plane coming home from my vacation in key west. This is going to be up a day later than when I'm writing because this plane lands at 10:30 at night.

Through the five days I was gone, playlist live was ending, so I watched a lot of vlogs. Also, one of my most favorite youtubers Zoe Sugg did a collag with Sawyer Hartman about fan girls. I thought it was an interesting topic that I wanted to address because there are a lot of different fan girls.

Obviously, the thing/person/group fangirl-Inge about ranges: from bands and singers to  youtubers and voters to Dr Who and the walking dead. However we can all agree on a main cause, to support our group and defend them at all cost.

I'm a one direction fan girl no doubt, if you know me I talk about the, about 93% of the time! I'll tie them into any conversation. However, I have some core values that I apply to how I fangirl (if that makes any sense at all).

1) respect. Respect is my main value for my life and this applies with fangirling. The people you love are just that, people. They get tired, they want sleep and privacy just like us. So when people say "______ didn't seem happy while entering the studio" or something stupid, I sit back and think, well if I was working constantly and being photographed, I might not smile every minute. Respect the fact that your idol can have bad days.

2) privacy. I've addressed this before when people were bombarding Liam's house after he got home from the world tour. He just worked for however many days and took 1 million+ photos! give the man some time with his family. The boys have a life outside of the band, don't expect them to be around each other when ever they get a break, if they want to hang out with each other they will but they have other friends too. But again, give their families the privacy (and respect) they deserved because their families probably miss them more than any fan realizes.

3) not spamming. This needs to be a blog post/YouTube video all in itself. Nothing annoys me more than when a celebrity posts something whether it be on twitter and Instagram and all the comments are "follow me". I'm not them, but I can assume they don't want their newsfeed clogged with you spamming and asking for DMs and a follow. Maybe comment something like "have a great day" or "thanks for all the time you put into the music". Not just "follow me".

Well that pretty much sums it up for now. I will most likely be adding on to this as I think more about it.

Another Book Haul:

In preparation for my vacation, I went to the library to pick up some more books to read on the beach.

First, the REVIEWS from the last three books in my book haul:

Breaking Beautiful: by Jennifer Shaw Wolf
It's a mystery that kept me guessing the entire time. I thought I knew how the book was going to end but really I was completely off. I gave this 4/5 stars because the book was able to really dive into a difficult topic and create a great mystery.

Anna and the French Kiss: by Stephanie Perkins (last name twins!!)
This was a super easy and fast read (it only took me a day to read). The story is kind of cliche but it's so sweet and the roller coaster Anna goes on is so complicated (which I love). In the end I'm glad I read this fun loving book. I gave this 3/5 stars on Good Reads.

Fangirl: by Rainbow Rowell
One of my top favorite books EVER. It's so much more than what the summary makes it out to be. I was taken on a journey of a college student finding out about herself versus what others want for her versus what she wants to do for others. I loved this book so much and gave it 5/5 stars.

Newest Book Haul:
Sweethearts: by Sara Zarr

Full Ride: Margaret Peterson Haddix

All These Things I've Done: by Gabrielle Zevin

Stay: by Deb Caletti

Golden: Jessi Kirby

Whole Wheat Sugar Cookies

Spring Break officially starts tomorrow, I made it out alive. To celebrate I spent the night catching up on my recorded television series (Twisted and The Fosters) and baking.

I haven't bought any regular flour and so I've been using whole wheat flour.

Ingredients:
1 1/3c. Whole wheat flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. Softened butter
3/4 c. White sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

Instructions:
1) Preheat oven to 375F. In a small bowl mix the flour, baking soda and baking powder

2) In a mixer, beat the butter and sugar, then add the vanilla and egg. Once everything is incorporated, slowly add the flour mixture

3) Roll a tablespoon of dough into a ball and then sprinkle some more sugar over the dough
4) If desired, press fork into the dough to create a pattern

5) Bake for 9 minutes, or until done

*The cookies were a little dry but I assume that is from the whole wheat flour. Also, I based my recipe off of the "All Recipes" Basic Sugar Cookies.

Excessive Tests In One Week

Nothing frustrates me more when teachers pile on work in the last week before grades are due. Spring break begins Friday but I have a lot of tests in the next two days.

I had part one of my Spanish test Monday, part two today. I have an honors chemistry test Thursday, AP US History test Thursday, Algebra II test tomorrow (Wednesday) and a Pre-AP English II test tomorrow over Lord of the Flies (& an AP essay Thursday).

I'm really busy to say the least.

I understand testing us to wrap up a unit but when the teacher doesn't update your grades that makes me even more mad. One teacher in particular hasn't updated her grades in over a month! How am I supposed to know what grade I need on my test to maintain my quarter grade/GPA!

Anyway, once I get to Thursday I'll be on break and can finally relax.

Hopefully you have a great week!

Growing Fame

Nothing annoys me more than when people complain that bands are becoming famous and that they wish the band could stay small/local. The band was created to reach out to people through music. The prime example of this is 5 Seconds of Summer. When I scroll through the comments of She Looks so Perfect, a lot of the comments are "Directioners only like them because they opened for One Direction." Another popular one is "I don't want my whole school knowing about them."

The fans of 5SOS are growing, isn't that what you want, to see even more people supporting the people you love? I found out about 5SOS through the One Direction concert, does that mean I can't like them or that I'm not a real fan? I love their music and support them just like I support One Direction. I might not be from the original fan base but that doesn't mean I should receive hate (nor should anyone else).

I can't speak 100% here because I've never met 5 Seconds of Summer, but I can assume that they wanted to make it in the music industry. Isn't that why people start bands, is to make it in the industry? So saying that they should've remained a small YouTube band is pointless because they are now living their dreams. Everyone should just be supporting them, not ragging on new fans. This goes with any fanbase. Embrace everyone, if they were there from day 1, day 375, or just found out about the band today. We all join a fandom for one purpose, to support the group, and that's what we should stick to doing.

xx

I really like my talks about fandoms because there is always some kind of drama, interesting events going on to discuss. Hopefully you guys like my fandom talks because I'm going to be doing a lot more of them!

Grateful Thursday #4

1) Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell because it's a really good book and I just want to read it and not so school work
2) Twisted, the ABC Family series, it's so intense and great, and Avan Jogia is beautiful too
3) decaffeinated coffee, so I can drink multiple cups after school
4) Haircuts. My hair was so heavy because I hadn't got it cut since August, so when I went Tuesday it was fabulous
5) the weekend. This week has felt so long and I just need a break.

I'm so sorry I haven't posted as much, I've been so busy lately but I'm trying to write some more. Don't leave, I have a lot in store.

Book Haul

I'm always so busy at the beginning of the week but then I try to make more time for myself as the week progresses. That's my excuse for me procrastinating on work at least!

Anyway, I went to the library recently and got some books that I'm super excited about. I also got the "Good Reads" app, where you can log all the books you've read and create lists of books you want to read. You can also search for recommended books, based off what you've read before and your interests. Nerdy, I know, but I love the app so much and I've already read 9 books this year!!

A few weeks ago I finished reading the Impossible Knife of Memory by Laurie Halse Anderson. It's a pretty new book and I absolutely loved it.

This weekend I finished Something Like Normal by Trish Doller and You Against Me by Jenny Downham. I would say that I liked Something Like Normal better just because it was something different. You Against Me had a great concept but it just didn't pull me in as much as Something Like  Normal.

Where the Stars Still Shine by Trish Doller is the book I finished today. It's about a girl named Callie who's been living her life with her mom, however her mom kidnapped her as a toddler. Callie's mom gets caught and Callie is sent to her dad. Now she has to learn to live a normal life but of course that comes with some challenges. I really liked this book because kidnapping is such a crazy thing and it was written very well. You are able to see what being kidnapped can do to a child and also how it affects not just the child but a multitude of people after the fact.

I also got Breaking Beautiful by Jennifer Shaw Wolf, Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins, and Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry (who is friends with me on Good Reads). Pushing the Limits is a series which I want to read over spring break (I'm going to Key West, Florida, in two weeks!!)

Finally, what I'm reading now is Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. The name pretty much describes my life perfectly and I'm really excited to see what happens throughout the novel.

Hopefully you all are having a great week and I'll see you tomorrow for my next "Grateful Thursday".

Grateful Thursday #3: Late

This week has been so stressful and I totally forgot about this, so I thought I'd do it now.

1) The Oscars: Ellen was awesome and I loved how she handed out pizza. Everyone looked great and it was a great show.
2) Snow Schedule: on Monday we had a snow day however on Tuesday we used the "snow schedule" for the first time. This meant school would start 2 hours later so that it would warm up and that the parking lots would melt. School started at 9:20 instead of 7:20!! It was great
4) the library: on my snow day Monday I went to the library and got a ton of books that I can't wait to read
5) 5 seconds of summer: they're a band if you don't know and you should really check them out. They are so down to earth and their music is great to work out to!

Well hopefully you enjoyed those 5 little things listed above. I'll be posting a YouTube video tomorrow at some time so you should go check that out!! My channel is thebabyperks, and so is my twitter handle and Instagram!!

Internet Self vs. Real Self

I tried recording a YouTube video about this but it wasn't turning out how I liked so instead I decided to write it out. There really aren't that many differences between how I act on line versus me personally (or at least I think).

- I speak my mind online
- In person I keep my opinions to myself (unless we're really good friends and then I ramble)

- On days when I record YouTube videos I look nice
- 6/7 days I'm wearing jeans and sweatshirts

- On the internet I make my voice a little more petty
- In real life I mumble, really badly...

- On the internet I can think through exactly what I want to say
- In real life I can't make smart comments and I don't know what to say to people

Well those are some really random things that I do differently online versus in life.

And if you want to check me out online, go look at my Twitter. Instagram, Tumblr, and YouTube

Book Coma

I've had some time on my hands and I believe I've used it quite wisely. It seems that in the past school year I haven't gotten to pick up a book and just read. I finally did that.

I found out about the "Vampire Academy" series from a YouTuber (who's channel is abookuptopia) named Sasha who raved about these books. However, I'm not a big fan of book series because of two reasons. One: I never finish a series... EVER. I have finished Harry Potter (because it's my favorite), the Hunger Games, Twilight and that's about it. Two: the author has a huge break between the first book and the next which means I either lose interest in the series or I forget. For example, Divergent was probably one of my most favorite books but the library never had a copy of the next book on hand (obviously because it was popualar). I simply moved on to different books, and then as time went along I realized I never finished the series and people ruined the end for me too. Another example is Delirium. I read this book for my high school summer reading project and again I fell in love with it but the school didn't have the second book they only had the third... So again, just another title for the "Books Taylor Has Never Finished list". Oh I need to add the Gone series to that too, but I just stopped reading because they started to become cannibals.

Another reason I don't read the other books is I feel like something is always going to end stupidly, so I'd rather just picture how the characters will end up.

I decided to give in to the powers of book series and try Richelle Mead's. I was pleasantly surprised on how strong the characters were. Rose isn't your stereotypical "Bella" vampire book character, not even close. She's strong and independent and Mead was able to capture me in series. I read Blood Promise, Spirit Bound and Last Sacrifice all this weekend. Keep in mind all three of these books are over 450 pages. There was something intruiging in each book that left me wanting more.

The only criticism I have is that the later books did become a little too long. I feel like everything became long winded and I did find myself skimming sections because I got the point.

Overall, I fell in love with this series and will now be in a book coma until I can find another book to engage me.
