Maurices Haul

It has been a while since I posted a haul on my blog. I generally stick to hauls on my YouTube channel, but after recording my haul I thought it would translate better in a blog post.

Maurices has clothes for all sizes of women and they have a wide variety of styles of clothes. This was my first time shopping there but I would most definitely go back. They also had a lot of great sales, which is always a plus.

First we have shorts. I didn't do individual photos of the shorts because there isn't anything too crazy about them. I hate super short-shorts and it is so hard to find shorts that aren't that way, and luckily Maurices had a lot of amazing shorts (that were a good length).

This shirt is what I'm going to wear to the One Direction concert in Kansas City tomorrow (7/28). I love the print and the crocheted diamond pattern on the back.

This next shirt is a cream colored tank with lace detailing around the straps and bottom "fringe".

Front up close
Back up close (with the same detailing)
I love this next shirt, again, because of the cool crochet-styled top and back. I also love the pattern and material of the rest of the shirt.

I finally got a full t-shirt! The theme of this haul is obviously the color blue and crocheted details.

A closer look
I absolutely love the straps on this tank top. It's two pieces of "rope" twisted and criss-crossed.
Here are some more zoomed-in photos of the front and back of the tank.

This is the final top I got. This has a racerback, and mixes a bunch of line "designs" on the front.
Well that's all I got from Maurices. If you want more me to do more haul videos on my blog be sure to let me know in the comments below. And if you haven't already, I'd really appreciate if you subscribed to my YouTube channel (thebabyperks). I'm really close to 70 subscribers!!

Summer School

As you all know from my update before, I helped out at summer school for the past 2 weeks for A+ hours. I got 32 hours from this and I needed a total of 50 hours. When I learned that I didn't have to work any of the mornings this week, I volunteered to help at the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) camp to complete my hours.

For the two week tutoring session, I helped with the fifth grade class that involved sports and statistics. We basically played all sorts of games: soccer, basketball, hockey, kickball, matball, etc, and the kids kept the stats on how they did. It was probably the best class because the kids got to run around and play sports (aka be kids), while incorporating math.

This week, I'm working with third graders who are building and creating all sorts of different buildings and "houses".

While I understand that this is all in good fun, I saw some of the kids that I had at the two week tutoring session at this camp, and some of them even attended the sessions before that in June. Kids need to be kids. I understand if kids need to go to summer school to help them improve over the summer, but forcing kids into camps for the entire summer doesn't give them a lot of time to be kids and enjoy the summer.

Parents try to schedule their children's lives out to the minute, and I don't think they realize just how quickly their children will grow up.

Again, I'm not saying that all of these camps are a bad thing because they can be a better option than daycare, all I'm saying is that children need to be able to enjoy their summer, and letting kids have some free time isn't a bad thing.

I meant to publish this last week but I realized that I never clicked publish.

Writing Tips

Writing has always been something that I've enjoyed and been passionate about. For the past few months I have struggled with creative writing. I'm so used to writing for the school paper or for this blog that I had forgotten what it's like to write complete fiction. I stumbled upon a great idea and I decided to role with it.

I thought I would share with you all some of my writing tips, and maybe you can share with me some of yours?

1. Write about what you're passionate about. If you're not passionate about whatever you're writing about it will show in your work. Once the topic interest you, roll with it and see where the storyline takes you,

2. Don't be afraid to look outside of yourself for inspiration. Some of my favorite ways to get inspiration are to look through quotes. I usually use Tumblr and just search under the thread "quotes". However, I use the Tumblr thread "writing prompts" the most because people give one word or one sentence prompts that can inspire entire stories.

3. Read a lot. Your writing can only improve if you're reading and studying how other people write. From reading I've found out which styles of writing I like and the styles I don't.

4. Be creative. A lot of times I write what I'm comfortable with, but recently I've been trying to step outside of the box with my writing topics.

5. Share. No, I don't share my writing as much as I could/should, but it is important to share what you're writing. Having other people critique and read over your writing will always help you.

So those are all of the tips I have for the day. Be sure to share any writing sites you enjoy, or prompts you have.

Until next time,

A Little Bit About Me

I started this blog in 2013 and since starting I've changed: my interests, friendships, and hobbies. I thought that I would do a fun little "about me" post to get you all updated on my life.

So let's get started:
- My name is Taylor

- I'm a senior in high school
- I've narrowed down my college choices (I'll be sure to update you all more about this once I make a final decision)

- I'm a triathlete
I'm the sixth person from the left in the front row

And I even convinced my brother to give them a try...
- I swim for my high school, too

- I love both reading and writing. I'm apart of my school newspaper staff, where I'm going to be copy editor, fashion and features editor, and the art director.

- Most importantly, I have an incredible family who support me and encourage me in everything I do.

Until next time,

Life Update

Hello everyone, I just wanted to apologize for my lack of blog posts over the course of the summer so far. I've been way more busy than I originally thought.

I traveled for the majority of June (Oklahoma mission trip and Hawaii vacation), as you all know from my blog posts. Since getting home I've been working a lot, and, okay, maybe just a little Netflix binge-watching. I also am tutoring up at one of the elementary schools for the next 2 weeks for A+ hours.

I just wanted to let you all know what I was up to, and why I haven't posted as often. I'm going to do my best to post as often as I can. At the same time, however, I want to make sure my posts are high quality and talk about things I'm passionate about.

Until next time,
Taylor xx
