Zayn Malik Leaves One Direction

If you know me in person, or read this blog, you should know by now that I am a massive One Direction fan. When the news broke that Zayn was leaving, I wanted to write a blog post right then. I'm glad I waited, though, because more information has been uncovered and has altered my feelings. **Apologies in advance if this become a lofty text post**

If somehow you haven't heard the story, I'll give you a brief synopsis. Back around March 20 Zayn announced he was taking a break from the world tour for around a week because of stress. However, on March 25 One Direction's Facebook page released a statement saying Zayn had officially left the band; One Direction would continue out the remainder of the world tour as a 4-piece band.

My first reaction: I was upset, obviously, I have been a fan of One Direction for 4 years. They have been a huge part of my life. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I'm a massive fan but I recognize that they are just people. Zayn said in the statement that he was doing something that "wasn't real" and basically wasn't making him happy. My first thoughts were, do what makes you (Zayn) happy because it's your life. He wanted to go back to London and live like a normal 22 year old. My only problem with this bit of information is that he has already been apart of the world's biggest boy band for 4+ years, he can't just quit and expect no one to ever bother him again. My other problem with his decision is that fans spent hundreds, of thousands of dollars on tickets for the 5-piece One Direction. If anything I felt like he should've stuck it out for the rest of the world tour. There weren't that many dates in the U.S. to begin with.

2012 One Direction

Secondary reaction: As time continued, more and more information was revealed that Zayn was working with rapper "Naughty Boy" and would be releasing music solo in April. Honestly, that really angers me. I understood him wanting to get out of the limelight and just chill for a little. Heck, if it was me I wouldn't be able to do it to begin with. Performing on stage in front of millions of people who've been supporting you for years? Yeah, not for me, I don't think I could handle that pressure. But he, in a way, chose to do it and made him millions of dollars. But the fact that he left and is going to be releasing music (supposedly) makes his reason for leaving a complete lie. If you want to leave One Direction because you can't handle it anymore, that's okay, but fans deserve the honest truth. Being in the band isn't right for you anymore, sure, but don't tell people you're going to try to live a normal life again, and then go on making music. If you truly left for stress and wanting a break, you can't be releasing new music less than a month from quitting the band.

2014 One Direction
Other fan reactions: If you go on Twitter be wary of the crazy fan girls. Again, I have always viewed One Direction as 5 guys who are just people. Other parts of the fandom are going insane. They overact. Then when other fans point out that they are overacting, they say it's rational because the boys have been there for them for so long. But again, fans think they "know" all of the guys personally. But they don't, they seem a lot of their lives, but they don't truly know them. These girls keep trying to get Zayn to come back, but he isn't going to. Even at the concert in August that I went to, I could tell Zayn didn't want to be there.

Early 2015 One Direction

The future: I will continue to support One Direction until I think otherwise. I still am going to go to the concert with my friends Danielle and Ronnie in July. However, I think that after this world tour the guys need a break. An actual, real break. Management has constantly pushed the guys to be on tour, write on tour, produce music on tour. I'm sure this is how Zayn got so "stressed" because there was never any real down time. All of the fans who supported One Direction in the beginning are now in college and don't have money to spend on hundred dollar concert tickets for the fifth+ time. I know that after this concert in July, I will not be going on the next tour. I have to save money for college and other things in my life. I know that Harry, Liam, Niall, and Louis are all super talented guys and will continue to do great things beyond One Direction. I don't want One Direction to fall apart, I want them to end on a good note. So once their contract is up through 2016, I feel like that's the right time.

Okay, I'm done. If you read all of this, thank you. What are your thoughts?

Until next time,

March Favorites

I did a favorites video back on my YouTube channel in January and thought I would try to do a blog post with my March favorites. None of these are makeup, they're just random things I have liked throughout the month.

1. Polaroid Camera

My grandparents bought me this for Christmas and I absolutely love it. My original goal was to take a photo a week for 2015, but as you can tell I haven't. I don't want to waste a picture because I "have to", instead I wait for the times I really want a photo.

2. Polar Insulated Water Bottle
Although these water bottles can be pricey, they are worth it. Once you put ice in, it stays cold for a long time. I bring one of these to school everyday but it's also perfect during training for triathlons, and swim practice.

3. "Just One Day" by Gayle Forman
Back in 8th grade this book was my favorite. For English III we started an independent novel project and I thought I would reread this. I wanted to see if my feelings for the book back in 8th grade aligned with how I view life, per say, now. I definitely have some different feelings but my love for the book is still as strong as it was when I was 13. If you have a book that you loved a few years back, reread it and see if your viewpoint has changed.

4. Skinny Pop
I am obsessed with popcorn especially air-popped popcorn. Skinny Pop is light and fluffy (if popcorn can be fluffy...), and tastes like air-popped popcorn without all of the hassle. I picked up this jumbo bag at Costco.
5. Keurig K-Cup Coffee's (& Tea)
I'm an avid coffee drinker. The very left coffee in the picture is the "Blonde Bright Sky Blend", the middle is "Carmel Vanilla Cream" and the right is Tazo Tea's green tea. I drink the coffees in the morning. Green tea is caffeinated so I sometimes drink it after school, but not all the time. At night I usually have a cup of decaf tea before bed.

I love favorites posts because I like to see the other products and items other people love. I hope you all enjoyed this too.

Until next time,
Taylor xx

March Book Reviews

I read 61 books last year, surpassing my goal of 50. At the beginning of this year I set my reading goal at 60. I did well reading in January and February but March has just been a slow month book wise. I got sick at the end of this week so I feel a little bit off/behind. Anyway... I thought I would review the books I have read in March.

1. "Stay With Me" by Paul Griffin

Why I picked the book: I decided to read this because I read Griffin's other book "Burning Blue". I absolutely adored "Burning Blue" and I heard equally great things about "Stay With Me".

Book Basics: Cece lives in a rough area but aspires to be more and go to college on a scholarship. Her, her family, and close family friends work at a restaurant trying to get by. Her older brother goes off to war, which pushes her mother further into alcohol dependence. Cece meets Mack, a young man with greater trials in his life. They quickly start to fall in love, and when all seems to be going right, Mack gets removed from Cece's life.

My Opinion: I had high hopes for this book because I loved "Burning Blue" so much. I didn't enjoy this book as much because it seemed really slow. It isn't that big of a book, it just took a very long time to read. I did like that one of the characters wasn't "perfect". A lot of times one of the characters is flawed and the other has to aide them to perfection, but in "Stay With Me" both of the characters had to work through issues. I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Genre: Realistic fiction

2. "Hush, Hush" by Becca Fitzpatrick

Why I picked the book: My friend Ronnie said she had loved it and that I needed to read it.

Book Basics: Things seemed off in Nora's world, and she couldn't pinpoint why. The mysterious boy from Bio, Patch, is drawing Nora in. He knows everything about her, even things she hasn't told her best friend Vee. Vee wants her to get away from Patch because he seems dangerous, but she can't decide whether to come to him with her problems or run away. **This book revolves (in a way) around angels and fallen angels, however it's not creepy in anyway, it's more just for how the characters get in Nora's life.

My Opinion: I loved this book so much, I read it in four days. It had me on edge the entire time and I was constantly trying to figure out what was going on. This book really got me out of my reading funk. I find it a little funny though because the ending was eerily similar to "Twilight" besides the fact that this book was able fallen angels and "Twilight" is about vampires and werewolves. I would strongly, strongly recommend this book because it was written beautifully and had a great message behind it. I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Genre: Fantasy

I haven't done book reviews in a while. If you've read one of these before, go ahead and share your opinions in the comments.

Until next time,

A Week in the Life

A picture (or two) of every school day this week.

Monday:

It snowed Sunday and it started to melt, but it still looked beautiful.

Tuesday:

Some of our Girl Scout cookies arrived and they were wonderful.

This photo captures my daily life: YouTube, struggling with pre-calc and my computer.

Wednesday:

I filmed my #DearMe video this day. You can check it out here. The top photo is the background for my videos. The photo below is what I see when I film (and you all don't see).

Thursday:
After school, my mom and I drove down to Warrensburg to look at the University of Central Missouri on Friday. We left a day early because it was a 3 hour drive and we wanted to give ourselves enough time. This was the motel we stayed in. The man in the room next to us decided it would be a great idea to yell/laugh with a friend over the phone at 1 am. It was a great night... But really, I had a blast driving down with my mom.

Friday:
This was in front of the student union center. I didn't take as many pictures as I wanted but this works.

Saturday:
And finally, I'm back home. It's funny because at the beginning of the week there was 6 inches of snow, and now it is 60 degrees. I expect nothing less of Missouri.

Until next time,

Bucket List

I completed the Polar Plunge this Saturday (a video should be up about it in a few days) which got me thinking about my bucket list. Although the Polar Plunge wasn't originally on my bucket list, I can say I accomplished it.

So here we go...

1. Visit London
I have wanted to visit London for around 2 years now and my passion to do so is still strong. I love the feel of the city and the atmosphere seems spectacular.

Can we discuss the beauty of this sunset?

 Or the London Eye?

2. Bungee Jumping in New Zealand
On one season of Biggest Loser the contestants traveled to New Zealand to bungee jump and since then I've been set on traveling there to do the same. For some crazy reason I justify bungee jumping because I would be strapped to a cord and would feel safer (?)

3. Attend Playlist Live in Orlando and Vidcon in LA
Both are YouTuber conventions where you get to go around different convention spaces and meet with your favorite YouTubers. I'd also get the feel of the LA lifestyle for a weekend without having to commit to living there.

4. Run a Marathon
I'm a triathlete but I would love to be able to say that I've done a marathon.

5. Work/Intern for Make A Wish
I would love to be able to bring kid's greatest dreams to life.

6. Go on a Mission Trip out of the country
A small group of people from my church go on a dental trip every year to Honduras. When I turn 18 I would love to accompany them. Another place I would like to go would be Haiti or South Africa.

This photo is from Haiti, there are so many needs in this country and I just want to wrap my arms around all of those families.

7. Reach 250,000 subscribers on YouTube
Right now I'm at 61 subscribers and I would love to have this huge goal of mine accomplished by 5-6 years. My goal for this year is 100.

8. Go to Hawaii with my family
I'm going this summer so the only necessary thing to say is woooooo

9. Run a 5k with my mom
Mom if you're reading this, I KNOW you can do a 5K and we are going to do it!!!

10. Write a book
I have loved reading my entire life. I would love to be able to create my own piece of literature to publish. Maybe it could even be a book full of my photos with the stories behind them.

Those are just 10 of the things on my bucket list I thought I would share with you. What are some of the things on your bucket list?

Until next time,
Taylor xx
