Working for Families: Family Tax Credit

by Inland Revenue

Up to $152 a week for your eldest child and $124 for each other child, depending on family income.

We're not affiliated with Inland Revenue. Offers change, so confirm the details on the official site.

The scoop

The family tax credit is the main Working for Families payment. If your family income is $44,900 or less, you get the full amount: $7,921 a year ($152 a week) for your eldest child and $6,454 a year ($124 a week) for each other child.

Above $44,900, the credit reduces by 27.5 cents for every extra dollar of family income. IRD has a calculator to estimate yours.

How to claim it

  1. 1

Estimate your entitlement with IRD's Working for Families calculator.

  2. 2

Apply through myIR once your baby is born.

Who qualifies
