The short version

  • After baby arrives, the biggest freebies are diaper samples and rewards, formula programs, free books by mail and the health benefits your plan already covers.
  • Your well-baby visits include a free maternal depression screening, and most plans cover lactation support at no cost.
  • Medicaid continues for 12 months after birth in every state except Arkansas.
  • Families who need extra help can get free diapers, cribs and nurse home visits.

The newborn weeks are a blur, and nobody has time to hunt for deals. So here's the short list of free stuff for new moms (and every new parent) that's actually worth claiming in 2026, sorted by how much it saves you.

1. Use the health benefits you already have

Your health plan covers more than you think, at no cost with in-network providers:

  • Lactation support: breastfeeding counseling from trained providers, including lactation consultants.
  • Breast pump and storage supplies: if you didn't order a pump during pregnancy, you still can.
  • Well-baby checkups, newborn screenings and recommended vaccines for your baby.
  • A maternal depression screening for you at your baby's well visits.

If you're on Medicaid, coverage continues for 12 months after birth in every state except Arkansas. Read more in free baby stuff through insurance.

2. Free diapers and diaper savings

  • Scan every pack in the Pampers Club app: 10 diaper scans gets you $10 off.
  • Use welcome box samples to test brands before buying big boxes.
  • Diaper banks give free diapers to families who need them. Find one through the National Diaper Bank Network or by calling 211.

Our free diapers guide has the full list, including the states where Medicaid covers diapers.

3. Formula coupons and samples

If you're formula feeding or combo feeding, join Enfamil Family Beginnings, MySimilac Rewards and MyGerber for coupons, rebates and samples. Our free formula samples guide explains which trial offers to avoid.

4. You can still claim a Babylist box

Babylist's Hello Baby Box is open until your baby is four weeks old, so it's not too late if you missed it while pregnant. The registry completion discounts at Amazon and Babylist also run until 90 days after your arrival date.

5. Free books from day one

Sign your newborn up for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and a free book arrives every month until age five, wherever a local partner funds it. Your pediatrician may also hand out free books at checkups through Reach Out and Read. More in free books for babies.

6. Free help at home

  • Nurse-Family Partnership: free nurse home visits for first-time moms who qualify, until baby turns two.
  • WIC: food, formula help and breastfeeding support for postpartum moms and babies.
  • New-baby kits: some hospitals and health centers now hand out free kits with diapers, wipes and postpartum supplies through a federal program launched in 2026. Ask before you're discharged.

7. A safe place to sleep

If you need a crib, Cribs for Kids works with hospitals and community partners to provide portable cribs and safe-sleep education to families who need them. Some Medicaid health plans also give a free portable crib or play yard for going to your postpartum checkup.

8. Get your car seat checked

A certified technician will check your car seat installation for free, and many find something to fix. It takes about half an hour and is worth doing in the first weeks.
