The short version
- The most reliable free formula samples come from the brands' own parent programs: Enfamil Family Beginnings, MySimilac Rewards and MyGerber.
- Samples aren't guaranteed with any of them, but all three send coupons and rebates.
- Your pediatrician's or OB's office may have samples. It never hurts to ask.
- Watch out for formula "trials" that are really discounted subscriptions, and outdated listings for ByHeart, which was recalled and discontinued.
Formula is one of the biggest baby expenses, and trying a few brands before you commit can save real money. Here's how to get free formula samples in 2026, which sign-ups are worth it, and what to skip.
Before switching formulas, check with your pediatrician, especially if your baby has allergies, reflux or was born early.
1. Enfamil Family Beginnings
Enfamil's free membership is the biggest formula program. Enfamil says members can get up to $400 in savings, rewards and support. That includes:
- Free formula samples (eligibility varies)
- Discount checks and digital rebates
- Cash-back rebates you can send to Venmo or PayPal
- Weekly pregnancy and baby tips
Sign up during pregnancy with your due date so the welcome kit and first offers match your baby's age. Kits usually take several weeks to arrive.
2. MySimilac Rewards (formerly Similac Strong Moms)
If you've seen "Similac Strong Moms" mentioned, that program is now called MySimilac Rewards. Members get formula coupons, nutrition guidance and a free Shutterfly photo book, and Similac says you may also get formula samples in your welcome kit. You earn points by redeeming coupons and scanning codes on Similac products, and points unlock more offers.
3. MyGerber Baby Expert
Gerber's free MyGerber account pairs coupons with something genuinely useful: 24/7 access to registered dietitians, lactation consultants and sleep coaches. When you sign up, tick the box to receive infant formula samples. Gerber sends them when they're available.
4. Ask your pediatrician or OB
Doctors' offices often get formula samples from manufacturers and hand them to parents who ask. There's no guarantee they'll have your brand in stock, but it's worth a question at your next appointment, particularly if your baby needs a sensitive or specialty formula you want to test before buying a full can.
5. Don't count on the hospital bag
Hospitals used to send most new parents home with a formula-filled discharge bag. That's far less common now. Hospitals designated "Baby-Friendly" follow international marketing rules that bar free formula samples, and a CDC-based study found the share of hospitals giving formula discharge packs to breastfeeding mothers dropped from about 73% in 2007 to 32% in 2013. If you're formula feeding, ask your nurse what's available; don't assume a bag is coming.
6. If money is tight: WIC
WIC helps eligible families with formula, food and breastfeeding support. If you're on Medicaid, SNAP or TANF you automatically meet WIC's income rules, and many working families qualify too. SNAP benefits can also be used to buy formula.
Formula "free samples" to be careful with
- Trials that turn into subscriptions. Some direct-to-consumer formula brands advertise "trials" that are really a discounted bundle which auto-renews into a subscription after a couple of weeks. Read the fine print, and set a reminder to cancel if you don't want to continue.
- Professional-only samples. Some brands, such as Kendamil, send samples to healthcare professionals rather than directly to parents. Ask your pediatrician instead.
- ByHeart listings. ByHeart formula was recalled in November 2025 after an infant botulism outbreak and the brand has been discontinued. Ignore any old "ByHeart free sample" posts.
- Sites that ask for card details or surveys. Real formula programs never need your credit card.

Frequently asked questions
How do I get free formula samples by mail?
Join the free parent programs run by the formula brands: Enfamil Family Beginnings, MySimilac Rewards and MyGerber. Each sends coupons and may send formula samples, though samples aren't guaranteed.
What happened to Similac Strong Moms?
Similac's rewards program is now called MySimilac Rewards. It offers formula coupons, points and a free photo book, and may include samples in the welcome kit.
Do hospitals still give out free formula?
Less often than they used to. Hospitals designated Baby-Friendly don't hand out free formula samples, and formula discharge packs have become much less common. Ask your nurse if you're formula feeding.

Not always. Some formula trials are discounted bundles that auto-renew into a paid subscription. Read the terms before you check out and set a reminder to cancel if needed.
