La La Land

I am not a huge movie fan, or a huge musical fan for that matter. I get bored in movies easily and while I respect the talent that goes into musicals, they just are not usually for me. When I got back to campus after winter break "La La Land" seemed to explode in popularity. I didn't really want to see it, but I also wanted to understand what the hype was about. Last night I went with Gabby, Megan, and Samara to see it.
I got a student discount so it only costs me $7.52, I was expecting to pay $10 so that's a plus
The opening scene did not leave me amazed, so I went in a little skeptical about how the remainder of the movie would unfold.

As I watched the story develop, it began to grow on me. I loved that it depicted the real struggles of two people trying to pursue their dream in Los Angeles. Also, my parents love jazz so I got a little reminder of them through Sebastian's character.

Surprisingly the music was not too overwhelming. I guess I was imagining the entire movie being sung, but in reality it was much more toned down. The music enhanced the plot instead of distracting from it.

I don't want to give any spoilers away so I'll keep this pretty brief but I thoroughly enjoyed La La Land-- a lot more than I originally thought I was going to. It had a whimsical simplicity to it, with real-life struggle intertwined. I probably wouldn't pay to go watch it in theaters again, but I'd definitely watch it again once it came out on DVD.

Have you seen La La Land? What were your thoughts?

Until next time,
Taylor xx
